Here is something truly fresh and unique. Here is a sample of exactly the type of energy Antiquiet feeds off. I’ve discovered a design company based out of Portland. It took me awhile to figure out that they were a design company- at first glance they appear to be a construction company, which the design nerd in me finds fucking brilliant. It’s a great image, which perfectly complements their no-bullshit, straight-to-the-point design ethics. Draplin Design Company proprietor Aaron James Draplin is the star of this video clip, which made my day.
As long as it took me to figure out that Draplin is not a construction company, it took me even longer to figure out what the story was behind this video, left on the doorstep of the internet with little more than a nametag.
The source of the video clip is video director / blogger Jess Gibson, and it is a trailer of sorts for a project he has been working on entitled “The Draplin Thing,” which as far as I can gather, follows Aaron and his pals through four states and 630 miles of yard sale scavenger hunting along Highway 127 in the middle of summer. I believe it begins August 7th. More on that here.
Often, when we post something that has absolutely nothing to do with music, we get comments to the effect of “hey, isn’t this a music site?” Which we usually just chuckle at and rarely respond to. What belongs here is whatever the hell we’re inspired to share with you, and this is something that fits that description perfectly. Today I’ve been inspired by Aaron James Draplin. He’s not famous yet, but I’m a fan, and now more than ever this world needs people like him, looking at things the way that he does.
