After a fight backstage in Paris, Oasis has officially disbanded. Again. Maybe for good? Here’s the story…
The band was scheduled to play Rock In Seine in Paris today. After a fight broke out backstage, Noel Gallagher apparently walked out, and the festival’s organizers announced from the stage that Oasis “no longer existed.”
Singer Amy MacDonald had this to say via Twitter:
“Oasis cancelled again with one minute to stage time!! Liam smashed Noel’s guitar, huuuge fight!”
Noel confirmed the news through a post on the band’s official website:
“It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer… Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan.”
Of course all of this might sound suspiciously familiar to anyone who remembers the similar blowup nine years ago (in Paris, ironically enough). But fans who have seen the band playing this year can tell you that the Gallaghers have never seemed quite as mad at each other as they seem to be lately. Noel has said barely a single word in recent gigs. Apparently, he couldn’t take even two more days with his bro, which were all that were left in the band’s touring schedule.
Last month at Wembley Stadium, Liam reportedly told 80,000 cheering fans: “There’s been rumors that we’re going to be splitting up. Let me tell you now, we’re not splitting up, we’ve only just fucking started!”
But then again… The Gallaghers have never agreed on much.
