[UPDATE]: Apparently, all of this was done at Bill Ward’s request. The band released the following comment: “At the request of Bill Ward, through his attorney, so as to not give the public the wrong impression about his involvement in the current Black Sabbath lineup, we have temporarily removed Bill Ward‘s images from the main pages of the blacksabbath.com official website. In accordance with Bill Ward‘s attorney’s request, we are doing so for the duration of the forthcoming shows.”
The Black Sabbath reunion took a loss earlier this week, when original drummer Bill Ward officially announced that he wasn’t participating. As Ward cited an “unsignable contract,” the band came out with a statement saying that “there are two sides to every story.” Apparently, one side of the story simply denies the existence of Ward in the band, as he’s been photoshopped out of the photos on their official site.
As Whiplash reports, someone actually went through the trouble of carefully removing nearly every appearance of Bill Ward from the band’s official photos on their site. Head over to the site’s gallery, and see for yourself. Take just a single, out of several examples – one of the very first pictures that show up on a Google image search for “Black Sabbath”:
Then, take the history-altering version found on Sabbath’s site:
There are at least a dozen other pictures like this on the gallery, all showing Sabbath as a trio.
This is easily one of the most ridiculous, head-scratching actions we’ve seen since Greedo shot first. However, the total removal of Ward from Sabbath’s “official” past wasn’t perfectly thorough, as their website’s history section still shows pictures of the original drummer, and even this great quote from Ozzy: “In my opinion, there’s only ever been one Black Sabbath, and that’s Iommi, Osbourne, Butler and Ward.”
No hologram jokes were available at press time.
