Nick Oliveri is Also on the New Queens Of The Stone Age Record

Queens Of The Stone Age, Music

Coming not too long after the amazing news that Dave Grohl and Trent Reznor were set to appear on the upcoming Queens of the Stone Age album, a post on Mondo Generator’s Facebook earlier today made it quite clear and simple: that band’s frontman, Nick Oliveri, will make a return to QOTSA via a song on their new album. The update stated:

“NEWS: Nick has re-joined Kyuss, and has recently recorded his vocals on a new Queens of the Stone Age song! Stay tuned.”

Oliveri previously played bass and sang for QOTSA until 2004, when some turmoil got him fired from the band – as he explained in a detailed interview with Antiquiet. After all these years, it’s nice to see that Nick Oliveri and QOTSA frontman Josh Homme are finally working together on some extent – though a reader reminds us that Homme was featured on a Mondo Generator track this year, already hinting at what could come in the future.

The other bit of surprising news comes from the fact that Oliveri has re-joined Kyuss Lives!, after the legal shitstorm that went on earlier this year. Though the bassist claimed that getting into a court battle with a band is a way to ensure that they will “never” play together again, it seems that he’s back on the group.

Until more details are released, stay with this absolute classic:

Meanwhile, On The Internet...

  1. Homme did appear on the new Mondo Generator album this year. On the same track as John Garcia, actually. Man, that’s ironic. Just not in the rain on your wedding day kind of way, you know?

  2. Gamma Rey says:

Hhhhhhm… Don’t know what to make of this. I was hoping for something new/different from Queens, w/ the return of Grohl and now Oliveri seems like they’re just going back to what is considered their most commercially successful album… But they have yet to disappoint. Can’t wait.

  3. Craig Stips says:

Hey, cool. New Queens is probably a lot grittier now.

But I don’t see why Nick would get back in Kyuss Lives. It’s just John Garcia sucking the last drops out of the only good thing he was a part of. And it’s Kyuss’ musicians that made Kyuss great. Not John. Oh well.

  4. CBLingo says:

I think Nick brings an edge to QOTSA that’s been missing but I’ll admit that I’m still kinda not cool with his history of violence towards women.

  5. Rory Biller says:

Now let’s get Lanegan up in this shit! How the fuck have I never seen this video by the way?

  6. Nomad1 says:

um its only 1 song confirmed so far. Keep your pants on everyone.

  7. X-ray Specs says:

All indications point to the fact that Josh Homme knows he’s absolutely got to make this next Queens record a very, very good one. Last two albums weren’t terrible by any stretch, but Queens has wandered a long ways away from what they once were. And almost 6 years since their last album is an eternity in ‘music years’.

  8. Todd Bryant says:

Always loved Nick’s vocals on some Queens. Raw and hard is a good counterpoint to Josh’s low and smooth. And y
