Almost two months after announcing that he will be playing new material at a string of shows this summer, Beck has announced that he is working on not one, but TWO new albums for release in the near future. He will independently release both a brand new acoustic album as well as an electric album, the latter being called the “proper follow-up” to 2008’s four-star-earning Modern Guilt. Both releases still remain untitled and lack a release date. On the upcoming acoustic album, it was stated that it “can best be described as a self-contained work, one that came in the form of a burst of inspiration.”
Additionally, although it will not appear on either of the upcoming albums, Beck has released the official studio version of a new semi-electronic song titled Defriended after a leak to the interwebs a few days ago. Check it out below.
In addition to the below tour dates (which include acoustic performances with Wilco and Bob Dylan as well as full band electric sets), more acoustic shows are said to be announced soon.
7.2 Paris, France @ Days Off Festival at Cité de la Musique
7.27 Wantagh, NY @ Americanarama at Jones Beach Theater (w/ Bob Dylan and Wilco)
7.28 Newport, RI @ Newport Folk Festival
8.2, Boston, MA @ Bank of America Pavilion*
8.4 Brooklyn, NY @ Celebrate Brooklyn at Prospect Park*
* = full band; all other shows are acoustic
