Back in 2004, Phish paid a visit to Brooklyn for two nights at Keyspan Park. At one of those shows, worlds collided when Jay-Z sat in with the boys from Vermont for shockingly solid takes on 99 Problems and Big Pimpin’.
While the performance has been available online for years, you had to wonder what exactly Phish and Jay-Z discussed back stage? As it turns out from this video we spotted on Hidden Track earlier today, one topic of conversation was outgoing NBA commissioner David Stern and his “love” of Phish. With Trey Anastasio at the height of his opiate addiction (the band announced a month earlier that the summer 2004 tour would be their final outing before calling it a day), the brief footage of the pre-rehearsal conversation between Hov and Phish is as awkward as it is awesome. You can check it out along with fan filmed footage of the performance down below.
