Last night, Americans tuned in to watch the big sportsball event of the year, Super Bowl XLVIII, in which one team beat the other, making a lot people happy, and a bunch of other people sad. In the middle of all that, there was a musical performance, for the average sportsball enthusiast to have something to look at during halftime, and for music fans to bitch about on some level. Bruno Mars and Red Hot Chili Peppers were the selected Hot Artists Of The Moment to (not) play.
Today, pictures of RHCP bassist Flea jumping around with an unplugged bass started making the rounds, and they merely confirm what we suspected upon seeing guitarist Josh Klinghoffer giving so much emphasis to his jumping around. Live TV is a complicated thing, and sometimes technical errors can occur, so the artists were requested to lipsynch/mime to previously recorded performances. Watch the halftime jam below, while we’re left heartbroken that Abracadabralifornia was not performed:
