Jack White was in Dublin this weekend, playing the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, where he somehow turned some venue austerity into rock & roll magic. Towards the end of an encore performance of Leadbelly’s “Goodnight Irene” the venue pulled the plug on the sound for curfew. Undeterred, Jack walked out to the front of the stage, asked everyone to quiet down, and belted out the chorus sans amplification. The crowd joined in, and instead of having a night cut short, the audience got a special moment. You can check out the video for yourself, the sound gets cut out around the 4:14 mark.
The night also featured Jack bringing onto the stage Allison Mosshart (of the Kills and Dead Weather) for a performance of Blunderbuss standout “Love Interruption”.
