One could say that Tool is a grandpappy. After being brought into two of its offspring bands, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer (as well as its nephew, Billy Howerdel’s Ashes Divide), bassist Matt McJunkins and drummer Jeff Friedl have birthed a band of their very own called The Beta Machine. We caught their debut show at the Viper Room back in April, and have been keeping an eye on them since. They released Pictures, their first single, last week, and today they sent us the video, done by Stephen Steelman of Brigantine Films:
Following in the spiritual footsteps of A Perfect Circle’s moody art-metal revival, the video for Pictures features model Sara Cummings wistfully wandering around a dystopian Los Angeles looking kind of like Natalie Portman’s character from The Professional, if she were transplanted into The Fifth Element. Claire Acey of Nightmare And The Cat helps McJunkins with vocal duties, a member of the live band along with Tommy Dill and Nick Perez. Carina Round has made appearances with the band as well.
