Not too long ago, we brought you all you needed to know about Foo Fighters’ coming Sonic Highways album, and now we have all the goods when it comes to Sonic Highways, the HBO series.
Just this morning, an official trailer for the TV show dropped and it has a lot to offer. Not only can fans catch a longer snippet of the song from their album teaser, they can also spot quite a few well-known pals of Dave Grohl. While that fact may not be a surprise after the cast of Sound City was revealed, there are still guests that may cause a few double takes. Everyone from Foo friend Rick Nielsen to President Barack Obama will make an appearance in the docuseries that is set to drop on October 17th. See who you can recognize below:
It hasn’t been quite clear how this new endeavor is going work out for the group. Many speculated that the band’s sound would get lost in translation or even that this project was a cop-out for a band that might be running out of original ideas, but if that video is any indication, neither of those fears seem to hold ground.
And if you were at all concerned with this band taking themselves a little too seriously, you can rest easy. Earlier this week, Zac Brown named the Foo Fighters as one of his choices to endure the Ice Bucket Challenge. In case you don’t know much about the IBC, those challenged have 24 hours to make a video of their own or else they must donate $100 to the ALS foundation. If you make it in that window, you make a $10 donation and challenge three or more people to keep the train rolling. While it seemed the Foos missed their 24 hour window, it is clear $100 was no scare for the group (though we’re sure they followed the trend of other musicians like Stone Gossard and upped that donation amount quite a bit). Instead, they went all out and took the time to create a remarkable Carrie spoof, shot-by-shot. It’s quite the spectacle:
The parody even earned critical acclaim from the original creator:
