The new Antiquiet Podcast is now on iTunes, and it’s my favorite one thus far. Skwerl came by the house the other night, and we put a whiskey-and-pizza fueled spin on the history of mixtapes. From radio-dub cassette obsessions to the symbiotic rise of CD burners and filesharing platforms like Napster, Morpheus, Limewire and Kazaa, we backtrack through the golden age of mixtapes as an art form before moving into the Spotify playlist era.
Along the way, we recount a cornerstone story of terrifying a decrepit, ghostly Little Richard before sneaking into Maynard’s dressing room backstage at a Perfect Circle show in the pre-AQ days. We also pour one out for the dearly departed Bill Paxton, the only* actor to get pretend-killed by the Holy Trinity of Sci-Fi: the Predator, the Terminator and the xenomorph from Alien.
Also, we caught the sickeningly great Get Out flick Monday night. The hype is real. Best dialogue outside of Tarantino. Fuck with it.
