Over the past few months, the gentlemen of TV On the Radio liberated themselves from the shackles of Interscope Records, released two new songs (Mercy and Million Miles), and performed on Letterman.
The sudden burst of activity after some downtime following the release of 2011’s great Nine Types of Light and the unfortunate passing of bassist Gerard Smith seemed to indicate that the Brooklyn-ites would sometime soon head to the studio to work on more music – and that’s exactly what has happened.
The band dropped the news on their Facebook page yesterday, complete with the following words and image incorporating a cat, R2-D2, and a Bill Murray sticker:
Time to let the cat out of the bag: We’re working on a new record. Right this very moment. Meow, y’all.
Now that Tunde Adebimpe, Kyp Malone and the crew are calling their own shots, it’s anyone’s guess how long we’ll have to wait for some more new tunes. Here’s hoping we’ll hear some more sooner rather than later.
