There aren’t too many bands that have as much notoriety among musicians and fans as The Melvins. More than thirty years into their careers they’ve managed to influence multiple generations of contemporaries while still staying constantly busy and putting out quality music. So why doesn’t a band with so many different stories and such high regard amongst their peers have a documentary? Well, next year they will! So stop asking.
The Colossus Of Destiny: A Melvins Tale has been bouncing around for a while now. Production of the movie has been ongoing for years, entirely self-financed by the film’s creators. Now that it’s release is approaching however, they need the money for editing, animation, and the general needs that come along with wrapping up and releasing a documentary. With that goal in mind, they’ve organized and launched a Kickstarter project to gain the cash needed to finish and release the production. While the band has no part in the donation campaign itself, members of the group and some close friends and associates have contributed rewards such as exclusive t-shirts and posters to the effort, as well as wackier options for the biggest donors like the chance to have a pizza party at some batting cages with drummer Dale Crover.
The donation campaign runs for the next month and is already a third of the way there. If you’re not totally sold on the idea of the film, a trailer featuring interview clips of super-famous people interspersed with the band members is on the project’s page, or you can totally watch it below.
