Once upon a time, a DJ named Peanut Butter Wolf founded a small record label in Los Angeles, California, called Stones Throw Records. The small label devoted itself to record and release only the most creative, interesting sounds coming from the alternative Hip Hop scene.
Madlib (which includes Quasimoto), MF Doom and legendary DJ, producer and crate-digger, the late J Dilla are a few of the highly regarded artists among the label’s line-up.
Now, almost twenty years after its foundation, the documentary Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton takes viewers on a ride through Stones Throw’s cosmos, from their beginnings. It includes unreleased performances and interviews with Kanye West, Questlove, Common and Madlib among many others. Check the trailer below:
