A hearty fuck yeah was heard ’round the music world today when Death From Above 1979 – Sebastien Grainger and Jesse Keeler – announced they will release a new studio album, The Physical World, on September 9, 2014.
Toronto’s dynamic duo worked with Dave Sardy as producer, a man with a shimmering list of credits, including LCD Soundsystem, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Noel Gallagher of Oasis, and Nine Inch Nails.
DFA79 was one of those bands that burned so brilliantly, blazed out so early, and didn’t leave behind nearly enough music. You’re A Woman, I’m A Machine was an instant classic with absurdly danceable noise punk riffs and huge, splashy drums.
“No matter what Jesse and I do, on whatever scale of success it’s sat on, there’s always some kind of reference to Death From Above. It’s only frustrating because it’s so lazy. So we’re putting out a Death From Above record and if the press is like, ‘It’s not what we expected,’ or however they react to it, it’s like, ‘Well, you’ve been fucking asking for it.'” said Grainger.
Hopefully The Physical World doesn’t start a riot. Because, seriously, this band inspires their fans to reach some kind of crazy Dethklok-level freakout frenzy.
DFA79 is set to perform at Toronto’s Riot Fest on September 6-7.
