Somewhere just shy of the often overwrought “supergroup” status, there’s a category of band that’s best described simply as pedigree. That’s just when a group of well-to-lesser-known artists with long histories of not fucking around get together to do some damage. Via Noisey comes the discovery of a new band firmly in this category, Dead Heavens, based in NYC and featuring Walter Schreifels of Quicksand, Rival Schools, Gorilla Biscuits, etc., Paul Kostabi of White Zombie, Nathan Aguilar of Cults, and Drew Thomas from the Youth Crew hardcore scene.
I’ve already been raving about Schreifels’ other new pedigree band, Vanishing Life, who I first caught at SXSW last year, so realizing that that’s only half of his current job description is a hell of a revelation. We’ll be ravenously awaiting what 2016 shall bring from both bands.
In the meantime, here are a few West Coast tour dates set with Mrs. Magician, and another track, History In My Hands. Oh, and they’ll be playing Boneyard Bar in Atlantic City on February 5th, if you’re out that way.
