All The Good Shit for Aug. 31

By Johnny Firecloud @@JohnnyFirecloud · On August 31, 2017

Lots of ground to cover today – here are the most interesting stories of the day.

  1. In the chaos and the floods, bars and restaurants in Houston are remaining open – those that can, anyway – to maintain some semblance of normalcy.
  2. Wait, so sexless women in their 20s pretending to get revenge on their friends in petty bullshit songs isn’t cool at a time when our sociopolitical landscape is on fire and our fourth-largest city is underwater? Excellent point.
  3. Taylor has, however, found a way to utterly rape the finances of her most devoted fans, with the illusion of greater opportunities to purchase incredibly expensive concert tickets – if you’ll just commit yourself entirely to supporting her in every possible way.
  4. Foo Fighters are talking about mental health and suicide, which is highly necessary in today’s world.
  5. Chris Cornell‘s isolated Black Hole Sun vocals don’t make missing him any easier.
  6. Mastodon‘s story is finally told in full. Check out this great retrospective on how the band became the juggernaut it is today. It’s one of three total reasons why the new Revolver Mag rollout is kind of interesting.
  7. Maynard James Keenan shares his insights on the value of hard work, of struggle, and dedication to honing your gifts.
  8. Check out an AQ-exclusive track from the original score for the film The Glamour & The Squalor, composed by Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready.
  9. Stream the long-lost Neil Young album Hitchhiker. It contains solo acoustic songs that Young recorded live in one day in Malibu, several of which later appeared on albums like Comes a Time and Rust Never Sleeps.
  10. Another sign of the apocalypse: Flavor Flav, rap’s court jester on high, is suing Public Enemy. The thing is, he’s got a case if what he says is true.
  11. There’s a Master of Puppets remaster on the way, and hell yeah.
  12. The new LCD Soundsystem record is, of course, stupid amazing. And here’s another new song.
  13. Action Bronson has his own Snapchat dating show. Why? Who cares, let’s get more of that saucy ball of profanities wherever we can.
  14. A Leonard Cohen tribute album is on the way, and that’s good for the soul.
  15. St. Vincent gets surreal in the new video for New York.
  16. Do this with your iPhone to make it louder.
  17. Bill Murray sings Gershwin? We’re in.
  18. Watch GNR play covers of Glenn Campbell and James Brown.
  19. It’s always a good day to bring out another story about Quincy Jones collaborating with Michael Jackson on Bad, and how amazing the late superstar truly was.
  20. You’re goddamn right about that.
  21. Nikki Sixx is stepping up to spread the word about the opioid epidemic currently rampaging through every facet of society.
  22. Shut up Bran, I’ll believe what I want to believe.
  23. Aw shit, Skywalker is going to the dark side. Which would be a whole lot cooler if Mark Hamill didn’t give off such douchey vibes.
