Matt Cameron, the metronomic octopus on the kit for Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, has delivered a track from his upcoming solo album, a rocker called “Down the Middle.”
The song sounds as if it could’ve been on Pearl Jam’s excellent new album Gigaton (read our review). Melvins’ Buzz Osborne features on guitar, as well as Steven McDonald on bass.
Cameron confirmed plans for a new album in on Instagram earlier this month, mentioning the aforementioned Melvins, Dale Crover, Taylor Hawkins and more as contributors. The record will follow his 2017 solo debut, Cavedweller. Cameron played drums and bass on several tracks for that album, in addition to vocal work and production. Cavedweller also features David Bowie’s drummer Mark Giuliana and bassist Tim Lefebvre.
Meanwhile, Pearl Jam has been forced to postpone both their Spring tour of North America and their Summer tour plans in Europe due to coronavirus lockdown. The band is looking to 2021 for re-routing the postponed shows, although given the ongoing pandemic crisis it’s too early at this point to make concrete plans.
So, we fans may as well pass the time by telling our own stories of fandom and dedication over the years.
