Here’s a quick one. Nashville citizen Aaron Lee Tasjan was one of the many great artists hand-selected for our SXSW showcase in Austin in March, discovered by Zac last year. He played early, and in the rain, but delivered a powerfully fun performance that brought people in to what we do here, and set the standard for the rest of the day. We didn’t quite get his whole set on tape, but here are two highlights, the chillingly inspired Madonna’s From Amerika, and $66 Blues, neither of which had yet been released.
Madonna’s From Amerika has since been released, the last track on Aaron Lee’s latest EP, Telling Stories To The Wall, released on May 20. I recommend hunting down all of his albums. You can start your search at aaronleetasjan.com. He’s a talented and special exception to a lot of norms: The white anglo blues revivalist, hobo-core singer-songwriter, etc. Ignore them all for all we care, except this one.
Many other sets we filmed in Austin are still to come. Cancer Bats’ headlining set is already online.
